Contract Artist
You probably already know the drill. We are looking for artists (illustrators / designers / animators) who can hop onto various projects on an as-needed basis. We collect portfolios and file them away in a safe place. Then when we have a new and amazing project, it will inevitably cry out for further assistance - at which time it may simply scream your name, causing us to dig up that portfolio and give you a ring. A ring in your inbox, I mean. In other words we may not have work for you right away, but we'll let you know as soon as we do.
Skill Requirements:
Professional-level skills and experience in one or more of the following:
- Illustration - characters design, background / scenery, sets / objects, etc.
- Animation - Including traditional (frame-by-frame) or interpolated (Flash, After Effects)
- Graphic Design / UI - Game UI design, type setting, page layouts, icon design
- Web Design - Page design and image processing with working knowledge or web programming languages
NOTE: When applying, please specify which of the above skills you possess, and list past professional experiences (jobs, freelance clients, etc) in these areas. Please focus portfolio on at least one area. If you have skills in multiple areas, we would appreciate separate portfolios, or a well-organized single portfolio showing off your distinct skills in separate sections.
Software Knowledge Requirements:
Must have professional-level skills in Adobe Photoshop, and one more of the following:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Flash (illustration tools, timeline / Motion Tween animation, and/or Actionscript - please specify skill set)
- After Effects
Bonus Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of additional software including InDesign, Dreamweaver, Painter, 3ds Max
- Some knowledge of art history, from Early Northern Renaissance to contemporary comics
- Ability with spreadsheets, and maybe even with math(!)
- Responsible and ethical
- Good communication skills over email, instant messaging, and phone
- Ability to work with minimal supervision if necessary, and track one's own hours
If you feel that you meet these qualifications, please send a brief email cover letter to jobs@pixelscopic.com with the subject line "ART CONTRACTOR APPLICATION". In the email (a.k.a. cover letter), introduce yourself briefly and mention significant work experience / employers, area of expertise, your availability, and why you are interested in working with Pixelscopic. Include only a PDF resume and a portfolio link (do not include a separate cover letter). We prefer to view online portfolios, but if this is not an option, please format images into a single PDF file, and send video as Quicktime or Flash compatible files in a single .ZIP. You *may* be graded on your adherence to these instructions... please help us out by making it easy to view your work!
While we try our best to answer each and every applicant individually, this is occasionally not possible and we regret any inconvenience in advance. It is unlikely that we will have a constant stream of work for art contractors - please be aware that we are adding your name to a list, and will contact you when we have something that fits your expertise.
